San Antonio bay area is one of the most important tourist destinations in the whole Mediterranean. But there are two faces of it: one is loved by couples and families, who go there on holiday until June and then after August; they choose San Antonio for the great offer of services for adults and children.
The other is the San Antonio of July and August, of the discos, of the young lovers of excesses, nightlife and beaches. San Antonio is located in the north-west of the island, 20 minutes from the town of Ibiza with which it is well connected.
In the territory of San Antonio there are a multitude of coves and beaches that arise in the most contradictory scenarios: among the rocks, like in the woods.
Its waters are calm and transparent, suitable for long baths, in which you can easily practice diving. The jagged coast alternates large sandy shores with tiny, more secluded places, offering the possibility of passing from one place to another with great ease.
Furthermore, these areas are rich in services, and enjoy excellent views and absolute tranquility.
The most modern part of the city is dominated by the splendid waterfront which flanks the port, always full of luxurious boats. This is the Portus Magnus, from which the city takes its name.
San Antonio is famous for the lively nightlife that begins and ends along the avenues that line the sea and between the bars of the center.
Here there are an impressive number of bars, each with their own DJ, who offer music at all hours: Mambo, Mint Lounge, Savanna are the most famous, even though the most common name is Cafè del Mar on everyone’s lips.
The Cafe del Mar in San Antonio is so famous that the compilation of its music is sold all over the world. Every evening from its terrace the ritual of the „Puesta del Sol“ takes place.
The ritual consists in arriving at the cafe around 7.30pm or just before sunset, sitting down and, while you sip the aperitif listening to chillout music, waiting for the sunset.
As the minutes pass, a growing crowd gathers on the beach; if you are distracted, you will notice that the sun has gone down from the long applause that immediately breaks out.
The Cafe del Mar has a long history: designed in 1980 by the Catalan architect Luis Guell, it is located on a rock eroded by the wind and the sea, just 40 meters from the sea, with a spectacular view of the Bay.
Sandy Marton contributed to the success of the Café del Mar, which in its famous album „People from Ibiza“ wrote a song called Cafe del Mar. All the bars in which the „Puesta del sol“ takes place are on the coast called Calo d ‚es Moro which is only 10 minutes walking from the center.
