The territory of San José de Labritja, located in the north of Ibiza, is one of the best-preserved areas of the island of Ibiza. The main tourist centers of San Joan are Cala di Portinatx, San Miquel and Cala de San Vicente.
The small solitary coves where you will be able to enjoy the tranquility of the place certainly deserve a visit. We are talking about Benirrás, Cala Xarraca, S’Illot, Cala d’en Serra and Cala Moltons.
The village of San José de sa Talaia, which takes its name from the mountain located in its territory, is located in the southern part of Ibiza, 15 km from the capital of the island and 9 km from the town of San Antonio de Portmany.
Other cities nearby San José are San Agustín des Vedrà, San Jordi de Ses Salines, Es Cubells and Port Es Torrent. The approximately 15,000 resident inhabitants treble in the summer period, thanks to the enormous development of tourism and the people who have decided to establish their second residence in this place.
San José is the municipality of Ibiza that has more beaches and coves; these places enjoy a great reputation all over the world for the variety of landscapes that adapt to all needs:
there are small hidden coves bathed by crystal clear and turquoise waters, including the beautiful Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida and Cala Vadella, but also very large beaches surrounded by dense vegetation and rich pine forests.
If you are a nudist, in these areas you will have the opportunity to practice it quietly, fully enjoying the wonderful environment that surrounds you. The interior of San José offers a very rich countryside, full of pine, fig and carob trees that surround the typical white houses of Ibiza, in a charming rural landscape.
San José is rich in art and history. A visit to the Phoenician village of Sa Caleta and the Punic-Roman rural settlement of Ses Païses in Cala d’Hort is mandatory.
On the coast, defense towers such as the Torre de Ses Portes and the Torre d’en Rovina are of great interest, built for the inhabitants of the place in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and which served to warn of invasions via sea.
Equally striking are the churches of San Jordi, San José, San Agustín and San Francesc de s’Estany, built between the 13th and the 18th centuries. In particular, San Jordi was built to satisfy the religious needs of all the workers of the ponds and salineros who had settled in this place after the Catalan conquest of the islands in the XIII century.
The most particular aspect of this church is its oblique walls and the battlements that adorn the upper dome, giving it a marked strength. This style was justified by the frequent pirate attacks that occurred at that time in this area of ?? the island.
These ancient churches remain the most visited monuments by tourists attracted by their very original style.
Furthermore, we recommend a visit to Cova Santa, a natural cave about 25 meters deep where you can admire the amazing shapes of stalactites and stalagmites formed by the effect of water over thousands of years. Don’t be fooled by the neon lights: today it is a restaurant and disco, but you can visit it!
If you are a sea lover and you are searching for the most beautiful beaches of the island, San José is the perfect destination for you in Ibiza. The only thing missing now is your choice: go and let yourself be surprised by our unique villas. Ibiza Villa has a wide selection of luxury villas in the San José area.
